Vicenta C. Nograles NHS Completes Concreting of School Grounds to Enhance Safety and Accessibility
Vicenta C. Nograles NHS Completes Concreting of School Grounds to Enhance Safety and Accessibility
Vicenta C. Nograles National High School has successfully completed today the concreting of key areas within its school grounds, marking another significant step toward providing a safer, cleaner, and more accessible learning environment for the entire school community.
The completed project addresses the persistent problem of muddy and slippery pathways, particularly during rainy weather. The newly concreted surfaces were strategically graded and sloped to facilitate proper drainage, helping prevent flooding and water stagnation within the school premises.
With improved drainage and safer walkways, learners can now move around the campus with reduced risk of slips, accidents, and exposure to muddy conditions. The improvement also provides teachers and school personnel with more convenient and accessible pathways as they carry out their daily duties and responsibilities.
Beyond safety and convenience, the project contributes to maintaining a cleaner and more orderly school environment. Properly designed drainage and concreted surfaces help minimize standing water, reduce the accumulation of mud, and support the long-term maintenance and preservation of the school grounds.
The completion of this initiative also benefits parents, visitors, and other stakeholders by providing safer and more accessible spaces whenever they visit or participate in school activities. It reflects VCNNHS's continuing commitment to responsive infrastructure development that directly supports the welfare, safety, and mobility of every member of the school community.
Through projects such as this, Vicenta C. Nograles National High School continues to strengthen its efforts toward creating a school environment that is not only conducive to learning but also safe, inclusive, clean, and resilient for all.

7.8-Magnitude Earthquake Disrupts Opening Day of Classes at VCNNHS
By Aldrie Jade Demafeliz
The opening of School Year 2026–2027 at Vicenta C. Nograles National High School (VCNNHS) was disrupted after a powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck southern Mindanao at approximately 7:37 a.m. on June 8, 2026.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the tectonic earthquake originated west of Maasim, Sarangani, at a depth of about 33 kilometers.
The strong tremor was felt across several areas in Mindanao, including Davao City, prompting immediate emergency response procedures in schools and other establishments.
At VCNNHS, students, teachers, and school personnel immediately carried out the school's earthquake safety protocols. Learners and personnel performed the “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” procedure before proceeding to their designated evacuation areas once it was safe to move.
The school community was successfully evacuated, with teachers and personnel assisting learners throughout the emergency. Safety measures, including the use of available protective equipment such as hard hats and the observance of proper evacuation procedures, helped maintain order despite the unexpected situation.
The sudden and intense shaking, however, caused fear and anxiety among several students and personnel. Some experienced emotional distress following the incident, while one teacher required immediate medical attention and was transported to a hospital for further assessment and care.
Despite the disruption, the incident demonstrated the importance of disaster preparedness, proper emergency response, and presence of mind during calamities.
School authorities continued to emphasize the need for learners and personnel to remain calm, follow established safety procedures, and listen carefully to instructions from teachers and designated disaster risk reduction personnel during emergencies.
The earthquake, which coincided with the first day of classes, also underscored the importance of regularly conducting earthquake drills and strengthening disaster risk reduction and management measures in schools.
As VCNNHS begins another academic year, the experience serves as a powerful reminder that preparedness goes beyond drills and simulations. In moments of actual danger, awareness, discipline, cooperation, and unity can help protect lives.
The school community emerged from the incident with a renewed commitment to strengthening its culture of safety and resilience, ensuring that every Vicentian is better prepared to respond to emergencies that may arise.
